I've been coming here for at least 10 years.. Tasty fresh hot dishes, inexpensive, decent proportions, friendly servers, calm atmosphere, clean place There's hardly ever street parking off of Lake and Oak Park Ave but there's a garage near by where you can enter from the back of the restaurant Never had a bad experience... Will continue dining here when I'm in the neighborhood

My girlfriend and I were looking for a great Thai place to eat and we found New Pot. The appetizer were amazing. The place seems pretty nice and clean. We have also order here for deliveries and it was a decent price. Overall, great food and service.

Good food, great service, but the roach that we saw on the wall on our way out ruined the whole experience for me. If you don't mind the roach sighting, I would recommend ordering the following: - Pad see ew (beef): The noodles had the right thickness and springiness. Could have used Asian broccoli versus American broccoli. But overall a good dish - Roasted duck curry: Right amount of spiciness. Plenty of duck meat and veggies in the curry. - Fried and fresh spring rolls were good. BYOB so bring lots of beer to go with your Thai food.

Order food for lunch. Food was okay but the guy who took my money had a bad attitude. I asked him for a plastic bag. He gives me a old used bag. I told him I wanted a new that's unsanitary. He threw the bag and rolled his eyes. I'm good. Bad attitude. Bad service #bad business.

Oh gosh, I wish I could give this place a more positive review, but reading about Jenny C.'s roach sighting is making me squirm. Today I had their New Pot (summer) rolls and a small wonton soup for a late lunch. Everything came up fast and fresh. The soup contained two small pork wontons, quite a few thin noodles, a few leaves of baby bok choy and a few shards of barbecue pork in a tasty broth--delicious. The summer rolls (three of them) were overstuffed with glass noodles, but the ingredients tasted fresh and the sauce was perfect. Then there was the price. I missed the lunch menu by minutes and paid $12 for those two items sans beverage with no leftovers. Hmm. In all, it was a nice, albeit pricey, treat. But now I'm grappling with the bug sighting. Yes, many restaurants and vintage buildings in Oak Park have roaches, but....

So glad we found this place, the freshest Thai we've found so far in the area! Very happy with all dishes, items indicated at spicy were 3/5 stars spicy. We had: cucumber salad Tom Kah Chx Basil Kee Mao

The chicken Fried Rice is sooo yummy! My boyfriend and I love this place. We dine in an and carry out. The BYOB option is a huge plus as well! Definitely one of our favorites in Oak park.

I ordered the Filipino Pancit which I was excited to try but it lacked meat and there was more noodles than anything. The Mongolian Beef was good.

We had a great experience today.. yes evey business has its down sides but this business seems very clean and the food very good flavors/ fresh ingredients. The dinning area modern newly remodeled feel. BYOB now I know so next time I'll bring a beer in..

Excellent Experience.. Satay & Pad Siew was amazing as well as the Chicken Cashew with pineapple.. We were welcomed to dine in at 8:50 when they close at 9:00p.m. on Sundays. Very sweet, polite, welcoming..we didn't feel rushed. We will be recommending and coming back soon. Thank you for a wonderful evning.

I would say food is just okay. I go here when it's convenient but wouldn't go out of my way. It's definitely fresh and for this place that means the soup could be great one day and a little different (aka not so great) the next. Different cooks? They kind of skimp on the entree sizes if you ask me. Mostly they skimp on whatever meat you order added to the entree whether it's chicken, beef, shrimp. For the price, you get more food at other Thai/Asian places. Good potstickers but they seem a bit too much like the frozen ones we buy at Trader Joes...hmmmm

Been coming here for several years now. Fantastic lunch menu all for $7.99, soup, appetizer and entree. I go there at least once a week as long as the weather allows.

It was my first time ordering food from this place. I got the New Pad Kee Mao based on a yelp recommendation. The only thing good about it was the duck meat. Otherwise, just spaghetti -not noodles- in watered down sauce with big chunks of veggies not cooked well enough. Cost me more than the average Thai food orders I've had from the area. Like many already wrote here, with much better options in the area, you can skip this one. Should I ever order again from this place, it would be to get more duck.

I've been ordering and eating from New Pot for years. Its always good although the service when dining in is a bit sporadic. The food is always fresh, tasty, with the right amount of spice and cooked to order. I prefer carry out or delivery. Regardless, it truly is my favorite consistent Thai food in the area.

This is where our Oak Park family goes for Thai/fusion dishes. Our son is a teenager and we have been coming here since he was a baby. The staff are always friendly and service is quick. They have an excellent selection of noodle dishes and we are also fans of the chicken satay, the shumai dumplings, and their hot soups. They have bubble tea and rumaki sodas for the kids and yummy thai iced coffee for the grown ups. A perfect place for a quick lunch or a leisurely family dinner. Inexpensive and authentic- we've never had anything but a good meal here!

The 5 stars is for one dish. That is all. One dish and one dish that would be on my short list of meals to have for my "Last Meal." Like, if I were being executed or something...this dish *might* be the one I *have* to have. It's their New Pot Kee Mao. I get it with chicken, tofu and shrimp. I lived in Oak Park for a few years 7 years ago, and this was my go-to meal on Friday nights. It is AWESOME. I don't know what it is they put in there that makes it so damn tasty, but I can't get enough of it. Thin egg noodles stir-fried with the above proteins, carrots, tomatoes, green peppers, onion, egg and other veggies. Not sure what's in the sauce but it's slightly sweet and spicy yet savory and salty at the same time. It's not a thick sauce...more just a sheen of delicious flavor covering every square millimeter of the dish's ingredients. I LOVE IT. And it was just as good 7 years later as it was the last time I had it. I also got the Lumpia Petite Rolls for an appetizer. Crispy and delicious, especially with their sweet, syrupy dipping sauce. Ugh. Makes me wish I still lived in Oak Park. The rest of the restaurant? Who cares. Slow service? Don't care. They could serve it in the back alley on picnic tables and I'd still give the dish 5 stars. So. Good. That is all.

We've always had great service at the restaurant but had not so good service when we tried to use their delivery service. The have a great lunch deal with lots of options. Vegetarians have so many choices here and they will adjust the spiciness which I appreciate. The portions are generous. Our family loves the Tom Kha soup in the middle of winter and the New Pot rolls in the summer. The noise lever is moderate so you can plan on being able to talk with friends. The only warning I will give is that the restaurant can be VERY hot in the summer. We keep hoping that they will get some AC in there. On more than one occasion, we've done carry out because the restaurant itself was an oven.

Finding a good Thai restaurant in the oak park area is proving to be difficult. The first time I ate at New Pot it was pretty good but this second time has proven otherwise. I ordered cashew chicken and my friend ordered pad Thai with beef. The dish tastes good and garlicky but the chicken was old tasting and tough with a lot of grizzle. The beef in the pad Thai tasted old also according to my friend.

A random stop in with a surprisingly large lunch menu for $7.95! I had the green curry with tofu which tasted great. It came with a soup and an appetizer. They accommodated their appetizer and soup options to make them vegetarian friendly! They gave me the fried tofu instead which was a pretty decent portion for a lunch menu item. It's a great deal for some quick thai!

Very bland, like plain spaghetti with chicken and veggies thrown in. Disappointing. Seems like more of a takeout machine than a dine-in experience.

This review is looong overdue as we've been very happy customers for quite awhile. We go there or order in multiple times a month. The delivery is amazingly fast and the food is delicious! I order healthy, vegetarian dishes and my boyfriend orders meaty and spicy. We both equally love it all. And an added bonus is that it's BYOB. If you eat there you can either order their dishes or sushi from Sagano next door.

  • Mary W.

I've been a somewhat regular of New Pot for at least 10 years. I love the Basil Chicken which is perfectly medium spicy and a very slight touch of sweet. The masaman curry is good and I like a side of the cucumber salad if I order that. The pad Thai is a good standby. They are usually very fast when you call for takeout.

This is one of my husband's favorite places to eat in Oak Park, so we stopped in for lunch one day when we were in the area. I was surprised that as long as this place has been here that I had never come here. When we arrived around 11:30 AM the place was pretty dead, but our server was very attentive and friendly. We each chose one of the curries from the lunch specials (I had Panang Curry). The lunch specials each come with an appetizer of the day and a bowl of soup. I wasn't crazy about the soup but the spring roll I got was great. We also ordered an appetizer of the shrimp rolls which were out of this world good. My curry was perfectly spiced and delicious. It was also the perfect size for lunch, which I appreciated. If I lived in this area, I could see myself coming here often.

Really good menu with lots of variety, and the inside dining environment is clean and comfortable for the price. The only downside is that their delivery business is very busy, so it can take a long time to get your food.

You MUST read this.... I am really torn about this review. Let me start by saying that I've been eating here periodically for upwards of 10 years and I find the food, service, and value to be terrific. I've tried everything from the appetizers (I could eat the satay sauce with a spoon) to the noodle dishes (pad Thai and pad khee Mao are terrific) to the soups (1 order can be dinner for 2) but on my last visit I had the most disgusting experience that I just have to share. I ordered carry out and was waiting for my food so I decided to use the men's room. It's a small bathroom with a sink, a urinal, and a toilet separated by a divider w/door. So I'm doing my thing at the urinal and begin to wash my hands.... I can hear someone is in the toilet and I notice a chefs hat on the sink but I think nothing of it. Well low and behold the toilet flushes, a middle-aged Asian man walks out of the toilet, grabs the chefs hat on the sink and walks right out of the door -- never even gives a thought to washing his hands. It was like a scene right out of Seinfeld! So I follow him and he heads right to the kitchen (which is open so you can see all the preparation) and the first thing he does is pick up a knife and begins slicing some vegetables. Need I say more? The food, service, and prices are all good to great but I will never return. I was a loyal customer who had patronized them for over a decade but it was all torn down with one bathroom episode. Consider yourself warned.... If you practice safe sex and eat here and then suddenly come down with a bout of hepatitis B, you'll know why.

We had the lunch special. Really good. The special is a soup, appetizer, and entree, all of which are reduced in size a little. The only thing I don't like about this place is how the counter is basically storage or prep area for carry outs. It seems like they designed it for counter service and changed their minds. I bet with some proper marketing they can get more people in there at the counter for a quick lunch.

Hello again Oak Park! Again, perfect half way point to meet my friend from Lombard for a long, 2 hour lunch. It was long because we ordered so much food we had to slow our roll. Started with the basic Crab Rangoon (freaking awesome) Spring Rolls (just how I like 'em) Thai Iced Coffee (sweet and refreshing), Tom Yum Soup (doesn't need the chicken in it) and finally our entrees: I had the New Pot Kee Mao although I was advised to bet the Bamee Wonton, but I felt like I was at a meat overload. However, it was DELICIOUS! My friend had the New Pot Noodle with Scallops and also loved it. At the end of the day, BASIC THAI, but delicious and hella cheap - it was $40 for all of that. I will be back for sure....need more excuses to get to OP.

Typical Oak Park ethnic food. They mean well (and are very friendly), but it's just not good enough. If you want good Thai food, go to Amarind's on North Avenue, across the border in Chicago. What I do like about this place are the low prices and convenient location. That's about it. Sorry, but for good foreign cuisine you generally have to leave Oak Park.

My husband and I love New Pot. We first came here after the like 3rd bad experiences at Flattop across he street. We haven't looked back since coming here (though we do miss the roti). We are vegetarians and they have lots for us. He loves the New Pot Kee Mao and Singapore Noodle. I love the Basil Fried Rice. Pad Thai is good too, but it seems a bit dry or maybe the sauce is too watery or something. I do get it from time to time but I ask for extra sauce and extra veggies. I have tried a couple of things that I wasn't so fond of, but I find most things to be great. Its a real family place that we love to support and want to keep around. Oh, and they spring rolls are yummy too, if you like that sort of thing.

I'd go back to New Pot for sure. Their Pad Kee Mao, with respect to ingredients, is the closest I've had to my beloved Land of Smile Kee Mao since having moved up to good ole Oak Park. The end product of these ingredients didn't really hit the mark for me although I've made mental notes that their food is quality. Their curries are also pretty good. Their Grub Hub ordering system is super convenient, and the servers have always been pretty friendly whenever I've gone to pick up an order. Overall, it's decent thai food, but nothing phenomenal sticks out to me in the respect that I refuse to try other places b/c I crave a particular dish from there. Nonetheless, if I had a hankering for quick and tasty thai, I'd go here for sure.

My go-to thai restaurant within walking distance of our home. The vegetarian New Pot rolls are perfect summer food - cool, crisp and with fresh mint. The Tom Kha soup is a great winter counterpart - rich, flavorful and nicely spiced. A lot of the general noodle dishes and curries are consistently well made, not outstanding, but a good value. The staff always seems to be in a good mood. In the past it has tended to be a bit hot and stuffy inside but tonight (a hot, humid night) was pleasantly cool.

Good, cheap lunch special. Solid, but not pushing any barriers in their flavor combinations. We had a tofu and vegetable stir fry and the green curry.

Come here, piggy piggy piggy! I came, I ate, I conquered. One big bowl of Bamee Wonton, gone! What's Bamee Wonton? Only my new favorite Thai dish. A mess of steamed egg noodles, wontons, BBQ pork, bok choy, bean sprouts, fried wonton, green onions, and cilantro. And it's straight up scrumptious. What makes the dish even better at New Pot? The BBQ pork. I believe it's actually tenderloin, sliced all pretty and honestly is the best pork I've EVER had at a Thai restaurant. I even ate every piece of pork before attacking the noodles as to not fill up on carbs! I want to hold many more lunch meetings at New Pot. Call me, I'll buy! Well, okay... that depends ;) Affordable, high-quality Thai food in a pinch. Affable staff, too. Can't wait to come back!

We recently had a great experience here! They kept the restaurant open just a bit later so our party of 5 could have dinner. The service was very good and the food was great! We know our way around Thai food and this was as good as any we've had. I have ordered online in the past but dining in was an even better experience. No one left disappointed or hungry. We'll absolutely go back again.

This place is awesome! For appetizers, we start with their Steamed Shumai and then for the entrees, I always get their Pad Siew with pork and my husband gets either the Pad Kee Mao or New Pot Kee Mao. They always give you plenty of meat and tons of noodles and the price cannot be beat. YUM!

A fantastic Thai restaurant. The food is affordable and very good. The staff is always friendly and I easily order take out here at least twice a week and never get sick of it. I have yet to find a better Thai resturant.

Service: Friendly and quick. Decor: Nice, modern, and a good amount of light. Food: Better than expected. I got the crispy chow fun. I anticipated it would be either raw noodles that soften with the hot sauce or grilled a little first. But what I got was oil-fried noodles, which were awesome. I don't know how I survived without them for so long. Though I feel like the sauce was a little flat, but maybe only because I forgot to ask for the heat. Definitely will return.

I like the food here. It's just the parking that's a pain if you want to do quick takeout- it's a whole procedure to park in the garage and weave through OP in constant traffic. If they had a better location, I'd come here more often.

Fried Tofu appetizer and Pad Thai with Tofu meal. Love it. The waiter is very kind and he even remembers me and what I like to eat! Food is very tasty, plentiful, and quick. Love this place!

  • Sherry Y.

The food is pretty good, more reasonably priced than many Asian restaurants around Lake St. I love the fried tofu here, perfect for two. Also, an excellent place to take friends who are vegetarians. Everything can be subbed with tofu or strictly veggies. I love the location, very hipster vibe with the interesting decor and lighting. You can also adjust spiciness to your liking. Bon apetit!

  • John V.

Thai food is good but its typical quantity over quality thai food. Alot for your money which is great for families but as someone who hails from the east coast and has had really good experience with thai food, this did not meet my expectation.

I've been frequenting this establishment for well over a decade and I have never been disappointed. The service is excellent and all of the employees are very kind. A few years back one of the managers, knowing that I was shipping off to college in Minnesota the next week, brought me my very own New Pot polo shirt as a gift. There are a few fine Thai restaurants in the area, but my loyalties will always be with New Pot. Give it a try, they'll turn you into a regular.

Chicken Pad Thai is quite tasty and my girlfriend loves their chicken fried rice. Nice interior for dinning but most people do carry out... still not sure why though.

Good lunch specials offering pretty good value. Service is very good and prompt. Tables are kind of tight, especially when you're with a few people and you have a couple plates per person.

  • Inbalsp S.

Very poor attempt at Thai cuisine. Most noodle dishes we tried tasted pretty similar, and the vibe in the restaurant is more like a cafeteria than a family restaurant. The Thai iced tea tasted weak and diluted. With so many better Thai options in the Oak Park area (Amarind's, Mama Thai, The King and I), this is definitely one to skip.

New Pot was the first restaurant that I went to after I moved to Oak Park from Chicago. I thought that I would be lost in suburban chain restaurants and bored out of my mind, but little did I know this little gem awaited me. (ps. Now that I know better I love the OP) The service is quick and friendly and you're always greeted when you walk in. The kitchen is open and right next to the dining area so you can see the chefs, the flames, huge woks, smell all the delicious smells, and listen to them banter. You can be pretty sure that they're not doing anything shady with your food since you can watch it being cooked if you stand up. The decor of the restaurant is really nice - they have these ceiling lights/chandeliers that are made with hole filled woks. My favorite dish of theirs is new New Pot Kee Mao which uses a thinner egg noodle rather than the regular thicker flatter rice noodles that normal Pad Kee Maos have. I just found that the egg noodles absorbed the spicy sauce a lot better and that it was easier to entangle meat and veggies for each bite. It's just the right amount of spiciness and I am no spicyness wimp. I almost broke out the sprinkler dance and the running man...but that wouldn't have been polite. I've tried an assortment of their appetizers and well as their bubble teas. Their bubble teas aren't the best - just average, but they do just fine if you are craving one. The appetizers are very tasty and recommended. They don't really have an extensive dessert menu - but you can always have one of the bubble teas. Their Thai ice coffee and tea are really yummy...I end up getting the iced coffee even if it's late and it ends up keeping me up at night...but the deliciousness!!! It calls. It's quiet enough for a date place but casual enough to come hang out in a group with your friends. I've never felt rushed the many times i've been there. If you're looking for good Thai, decent prices, right in downtown Oak Park, I'd highly recommend them!

3.5 stars is probably more accurate, bumped to 4 because it's probably the best noodle/thai house in Oak Park. Last night I was craving Pho and this is the place to go if you're in the Oak Park area for that delicious Vietnamese broth and noodle soup. You can almost always get a table here because I think they do most of their business as take-out or delivery. My finicky daughter ordered (and absolutely loved) the Lemon Chicken - her words, "that's the best Lemon Chicken I've ever had". Never been unhappy with anything I've eaten here. The staff is very friendly.

Very tasty food - a group of us went here for lunch a couple of weeks ago. The lunch special ($7.95) included soup and appetizer - need I say more?! Everything was delicious, even though I was not a fan of the Pad Thai - sorry. On the bright side - they serve alcohol (including an impressive beer selection). Friendly and efficient service! Gratuity is included for parties of 5 of more (as with most places in Oak Park). Enjoy!

  • Nichol M.

The staff was very friendly, yet not very attentive. We had Pad Siew, Pad Kee Mao, and Hokkien Noodles. The food was just ok, and all their sauces seemed to contain more than a hint of sweetness. Even for dishes that are defeinately not traditionally sweet. Wouldn't go back.

I've been going here for over 10 years. It's my favorite Thai restaurant in Oak Park - and there are a lot to choose from. Food is delicious. The store atmosphere is a little lacking (as many Thai places are). Because of this, I typically get delivery. Favorites include the Crispy Chow Fun and the Lad Nar. Think about adding tofu to both!

  • Victoria B.

This place is defiantly cheep eats. I could care less about the decor, since there is none. We go for the Tom Yum Soup and the Pad Thai. My kids love the Bubble Tea and every time we go I order a Thai Iced Tea. The family can't get enough of this place. It's never crazy crowed when we go and the service is good. Parking is sparse but through no fault of the restaurant. In short, it's great food, good service, and kid friendly.

We ordered take out from this restaurant, utilizing the site Grub Hub. For an appetizer we ordered steamed Pot Stickers. I prefer mine with pork, and these were made with chicken. In addition, perhaps because they sat in the container while being delivered, they seemed too wet on the outside. Maybe these would have been better if eaten fresh at the restaurant. I ordered New Pot Fried Rice with Shrimp. This did taste good, but there were too many onions in a near raw state in it. My husband ordered Bamee Wonton. He liked the wontons, but found the dish overall to be bland; he would not order it again. For the kids we ordered Pad Siew. My son liked this, but he preferred what my husband ordered. I don't know if it was because of the meals we ordered or if this restaurant just doesn't include many veggies, but there did not seem to be plentitude of the vegetables that are typically served in a Thai restaurant. They delivered within the window they said they would deliver, and the food was still hot when it got here. You can read more detailed review on the restaurant at: diningoutchallenge.com/2…

About nine years ago this was one of my first Thai food experiences and remains one of my favorites. The food is great, portions are good sized, prices are reasonable, and service is friendly and speedy both dining in and delivery. I'm a huge fan of the chicken pad Thai, massaman curry, fried pot stickers, yaki soba, and especially the Thai Iced Tea. On one of my first visits, the server tied a rubber band around a pair of chopsticks to teach me how to use them. No, I never figured it out, but I appreciated the extra effort on their part.

I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants in Chicago. Thai is more or less my favorite cuisine. This place, bar none, is the BEST Thai food I've ever tasted. And it's not because it's walking distance to my condo. The flavors just simply POP. When the Chicago winters start blowing in, I absolutely have to have their Tom Kar Kai soup. I've tried to make Pad Thai as good as theirs and it's impossible. They must put crack in every entree. I'M CRAVING IT NOW

What I love about this place (and many Oak Park places) is the lunch is quick and easy, since I'm one of a lucky handful of people who comes to Oak Park for work. I'm happy to come here with friends but I don't crave the food, and I'm a thai FAN (the menu is thai and chinese). I don't like the noodle dishes because they get downright mushy, IMHO. The pad thai is not bad. The dining room is hip and cheery and it's a comfortable place, never loud. The service is good. I enjoy places with the counter and open kitchen. If you're getting carry-out for one, bring cash. Credit cards carry a $15 minimum.

I love New Pot because everything I've ordered from here has always tasted very fresh. The spring roll appetizer comes with a plum sauce that I would like to put on tap in my kitchen. I tend to find Thai food on the greasy side and this is never the case here. I also typically don't get adventurous with my Thai food orders for fear of ruining my experience...this is also no the case here. I go out of my way to try different things every time and I have never been disappointed! Quick and friendly service is an added bonus to the excellent food.

    (4)
  • Christina G.

Solid thai food, reasonable prices. I sometimes ask for a different type of noodle in certain dishes, which they always accommodate. Usually get take out here. Also there bubble tea is really good, the coffee flavor tastes like a Starbucks frappucino. Parking is ok for just pick up, usually something is open outside.

Great atmosphere and really kid friendly. The open kitchen and hanging wok light fixtures add character. The wait staff is very polite and helpful. I'll classify the food as above average Thai food. They have all the classics and do a really good curry. This is my 5 year old daughter's favorite restaurant. That has to be worth something! We love coming here any chance we get.

That might have been the worst delivery food I have ever had.

Decent cheap Thai. Tonight I ordered the Tom Ka and steamed Pot Stickers. The Pot Stickers here are really only ok, not much flavor. You can't go too wrong with Tom Ka, this was fresh but served in the restaurant I would have liked it to stay hot until I was done. It was served merely lukewarm. I tried a bit of my friend's Basil Chicken Fried Rice and was surprised at how fresh it was. I normally order the Curry Fried Rice at all Thai restaurants, New Pot's is ok. The peach colored paint on the walls and ceiling of the bathroom is only as ugly as the fixtures but the bathroom is clean. The water was, like the soup, not hot enough. More soap...

Top-tier Thai. Enjoy the food and try not to focus on the poor ambiance or the sometimes slow service.

I live really close to here, and it's my go-to place when I gotta have my fix of their chicken pad si ew on a cold winter night. I don't think I've ever had anything else on the menu, actually. The food's consistent and always hits the spot. Service is fast and friendly -- I call 10 minutes before I get home and it's ready to go for me to pick up every time.

My mom and I stopped here for lunch and each had the lunch special: appetizer of the day, soup, and an entree for $7.95. Great deal- lots of food and plenty of choices on the menu. I had the Crab Rangoon, Chicken noodle soup, and the Malaysian Hokkien noodle entree. Delicious! What I really liked about this place was the large number of noodle and rice dishes, many available as vegetarian dishes. Great lunch spot- I only wish I lived closer!

Somehow New Pot has overcome the Oak Park restaurant curse subjecting quaint, cute, walkable places to having only atmosphere and so-so food. I believe this is the best Thai restaurant in Oak Park, though when I used to go there, I was usually only 1 of 4-5 people in the place. I will assume there take-out business is booming. I have yet to find any other Thai restaurant to surpass or even match their Curry Fried Rice, Basil Chicken or Ginger Chicken (must be because it's ground chicken - disturbing at first, but so wonderful).

Favorite place in the o.p. If I don't get New Pot ONCE a week, I crave it REALLY bad. Thai basil, and cashew nut are my favorite, always with tofu. Kinda spicy. I LOVE IT.

I lived in Thailand for many years, my wife is Thai and we couldn't be more disappointed with New Pot. We first went in for a refreshing Thai tea to walk around town on a hot day. The waitress was rude to begin with and when we got the "Thai" tea, we were amazed to find it was NOT Thai tea but just black tea with sweet milk and maybe some seasoning. I also worked in a Thai restaurant for 3 years and know exactly how to make Thai tea...and this was not even close. So we decided not to remove them from our list just for the drinks. We decided to try the food some other time. Well that time came, and we weren't let down. The food was worse than the drinks! The lard na was sooo bland we couldn't believe it. For all those uninitiated in Thai food...there are two types 1. Real Thai food 2. Thai food for westerners. Usually when we eat out they ask us if we would like it "Thai" style because of our being a Thai family. I would be embarrassed if I was the owner of New Pot and served this food to Thai people. The waiter was rude to my wife after she said thank you in Thai...he didn't respond. We will never return. Now we know why it is always empty and Mama Thai restaurant on Madison is always full. Stay away from New Pot!

I love their Pad Kee Mao- my absolute fave. Their sticky rice with mango is freakin' awesome! Good stuff here- atmosphere is kind of blah.

loved the pad thai and crab rangoon. we really enjoyed our first visit, the atmosphere is great and the staff are very friendly and helpful. this will certainly become a staple for a quick and easy "guilty pleasure" dinner in oak park.

My boyfriend loves the Pad Thai and I love the New Pot Noodle. They have a great lunch special including an appetizer and soup of the day.

Love it! This is where we go for noodles. The kitchen is open so you can watch the cooking, there are a lot of tables, so it never feels crowded, and the service is good. I love getting the New Pot Noodles or the Lad Nar, Thai ice tea, and for desert the custard/sticky rice plate. So good I took my mom there, which is a big deal. The food is always consistent, and yummy.

Freshness is what makes New Pot better than other Thai restaurants around. They have a light hand when it comes to cooking vegetables and that makes for the best Thai. Their sauces are flavorful and they are very vegetarian friendly and over 10 years of eating there they have never messed up an order. Try the Carrot Salad for a great sweet and hot dish.

I had take out from here. I ordered the appetizer sampler, bamee wonton, lard nar, crispy chow mein, new pot fried rice with duck, and passion fruit smoothie. The sauces to the noodles were kind of a turn off, borderline gelatinous (easy on the corn starch, people!) and under seasoned. The lard nar was ok, I seasoned it with a little fish sauce and tons of siracha. The appetizer sampler was decent I GUESS, being everything deep fried! but the lumpia, although meaty- smelled and tasted kinda weird. Was it worth nearly 9 bucks? Um No. The Bamee wonton dish I ordered was ok. A LITTLE SALTY. I wished I had some chicken broth at home to cut the saltiness. Disappointing. I knew I shoulda paid the extra money to add some shrimp in there. The most disappointing was the crispy chow mein. Just a measly handful of broken up deep fried chow mein noodles? That sucks! I don't want to recall anymore of the food here. Just disappointing overall. The passion fruit smoothie was the only thing that hit the spot. Nice people, but so? what about the food? The food sucks. I'm sorry. What you get also isn't much, don't expect to be able to split an entree with someone. I say skip it. Don't do it! It's pretty sad that people think this is delicious eats. Chicago city limits is not that far from Oak park so if you can- I suggest you go the little distance for not as crappy thai food in the city. On the brightside of things, at least I didn't have to cook for 3 days.

Reasonably priced authentic Thai food. I have tried a lot of new dishes at New Pot recently. It is reasonably priced and the food is good. I am not a vegetarian, but I have tried a lot of the dishes without meat and they were very good. Since parking in the area is bad (Oak Park). I normally call ahead and pick up.

Food was good, they deliver. In comparison to Sushi House that is located further down Lake St. and Mama Thai on Madison, I'd say this place is middle of the pack. Not bad but nothing to rant and rave about either. The red velvet cake was soggy and gross but what do I expect ordering from a Rice & Noodles restaurant. I had beef broccoli with brown rice, I'm not really food adventerous. It was okay but overpriced. If given a choice of places that provide delivery, there is better value with #1 Chop Suey that is somewhat dive-y but better value for the taste.

Not very impressive....I have definitely had better Thai Food in other places. The food is mediocre...but if you are in the area and have a craving, it may do the trick.

This place is probably one of my favorites for Thai. Very tasty, cheap, and lots of it. The staff is friendly and I love how the kitchen is RIGHT there so you see everything. The set up of the place is also nice... very open which makes it easy to flag a server for water, etc. It does get busy on Friday and Saturday nights, and we've had to wait for tables before.

Solid but unimaginative little place. A decent place for lunch if you are tired of the fast food options. Pad Thai was a bit wet but Pad Kee Mao was solid. Friendly wait staff and pleasant decor. We ate lunch there and only complaint is that their ventilation needed upgrading: a bit smokey inside.

I visit this place any time I'm craving Asian food in Oak Park. I actually like the ambiance of the restaurant. If you sit in the back, it's really very nice. I don't know how to describe it, but you kind of feel like you're on top of a hill viewing everyone. It's really pleasant. The food is ok, but nothing to rave over. The pad thai was just a bit too sweet for my taste and that's usually what I crave when I go to a Thai restaurant. The other dishes are pretty good too though but I haven't had them in a long while. Next time I go I'll definitely try to be a bit more adventurous and I'll make sure to report back. =)

They served us frozen shumai, just like the ones I can buy for myself at Trader Joes. Perhaps if I had never eaten Thai food anywhere else I would not have been so unhappy.

I had the Bamee Wonton based on some of the reviews and did not like it. The pork looked overcooked, almost reheated, and kind of gristly. There were hardly any vegetables and the noodles were dry and flavorless. Several of our group were unhappy with their food and it did not look good. I tasted the fried tofu and it had a bitter aftertaste. The New Pot Salad and the entree my friend had was doused with the exact same gooey looking sauce. The service was not very good. I had a mango smoothie, that was good. The New Pot spring rolls were good also but not the best I have ever had. There are too many good Thai restaurants in the area for me to go back to this place

I've had many lunches here since I work in the area. Their menu includes not just Thai but Chinese choices as well. The Basil Chicken is excellent (and spicy). The Bammee Wonton is also good. The portions are generous.

Decent Vietnamese dishes without an hour-long L ride to uptown. WIll definitely go back to get my Pho fix.

Good good (Pad Thai Tofu, Yen Ta Fo, and Bamee Wonton recommended), hip decor and a great location near parking and "old" downtown Oak Park. Delivery is fast and prices are reasonable.

Take out is so-so. Just started eating here after 6 years. I pickedup pho and soup without onions and they gave me complete crap and messed up the order- omitting the tofu completely. If you omit something from a dish you get bland sticky noodles and bland broth? Not in MY world.

  • Greg S.

not good. Pad Thai was greasy and unflavorful. The Calamari salad smelled bad - I actually took a few bites before throwing it out -and it didn't taste any better than it smelled. Paid $2 for unsweetened iced tea in a 16 oz cup that had about 6 oz of tea in it. I remember ordering sushi from the attached restaurant Sagano years ago, but stopped because of very inconsistent quality. Will not order from New Pot again, every item we received was subpar.

Why can't I do a half star? Three and a half is about what I'd give New Pot. It's tasty and affordable, and you're unlikely to get a terrible meal here, although you may find some selections bland enough that they cry out for a splash of Sriracha . New Pot is one of the few places I know of that gives you the option of duck pad thai, which is a nice change if you always get chicken, like me. Very rich, though. Some days you want duck, some days duck is more than you can handle.

I dig it! I had the chicken pad thai and chicken rice soup. The pad thai had a generous amount of chicken and the soup hit the spot. The waiter was very friendly and the food came out quickly. It was definitely worth the drive to Oak Park.

We've been coming here for years and absolutely love it! If you're looking for fancy decor or an "authentic" Thai experience, then this probably isn't the place for you. If, however, you just want some very tasty eats at reasonable prices, by all means, do yourself a favor and check out New Pot! I usually get the Tom Yum soup with tofu. The "small" bowl is big, and the "large" bowl is positively gargantuan! The soup is hot and tangy and just bursts with flavor. For a main course I usually order Pad Thai with Pork. This is a large plate piled with steaming noodles which are tossed in some kind of delicious sauce, (not too much, just enough to cover the noodles), diced pork, bean sprouts, chopped peanuts, and lime. Yum! The waitstaff here is always super-friendly, the place is very clean, the prices are reasonable, (dinner for two usually runs around $25.00), and the food is served up fast and piping hot! What more could you ask for? If you want some good, cheap eats with no fuss, no muss, check out New Pot!

Blech. Our food was doused in fish sauce. We couldn't eat much of it and felt sort of icky afterwards. I have had better Thai food at pretty much every Thai restaurant I've been to. So sad.

I like New Pot - it was the place I went with my realtor to celebrate closing on my first place in Oak Park. The food is fresh and prepared to order, as it should be. The offerings are pretty typical, nothing too far left or right of center, which is what got it a three star rating. I'd like to see them push the envelope a little more - especially being in a downtown district with so much competition. Service is fast and parking is free in the garage on weekends. Also a nice spot to eat at when you are heading to a movie down the street.

Really good, flavorful curries. The red is better than the green. My girlfriend ordered some stir fry dish (main ave. something or the other) and I was not impressed with the flavor of the sauce or the texture of the tofu. However, veggies were really good, and the place has a cool vibe and is decently priced. In addition, both times we have gone there, we have placed our order when we walked in and it was ready to go about 7 minutes later. Sweet.

I've eaten in here at least 5 times and again tonight. It's decent food. It's not that amazing, but it's consistent. Not as good as mama thai. I do like the regular pad thai and pad thai woonsen, also the kee mau, green curry. I always get these dishes with tofu. The spring rolls are good as is the coconut soup. They have fast service.

  • Blanket J.

Fantastic Pad Thai, however I've not had anything else from there. I've only ordered take out, too. But the quality of the food the three times I've eaten there has been well above average, consistent, and tasty.

I give New Pot only 2 stars because of the awful service that we received.....the food is the only thing that somewhat redeemed them. My girlfriend and I took our kids there for a late lunch. They automatically gave the kids plastic serving ware which was nice, but what followed was awful. My son accidently spilled his entire glass of water on our table. My fault for letting him drink out of a cup istead of a sippy cup. The palce was empty but our waitress was slow to react, we used up all of napkins etc to clean up what we could. Instead of bringing us more napkins, etc, our waitress simply just gave us another paper placemat and walked away! I had to find someone to bring us paper towels and more napkins, and they seemed put out having to share them. The service altogether was pretty poor and the food mediocre. Their shumai was steamed and bland. The only saving grace was the chopped garlic on top and the soy sauce. I ordered their pad thai which was average, and my friend swore that her seafood dish was incredible but only after she doused it in hot sauce.

So I had the Seafood red curry recently from here and decided to compare it to the Mama Thai curry down the street. The results... New Pot was MUCH better. The New Pot curry had so much more flavor and spice! The Mama Thai version had a decent amount of seafood but didnt have anywhere near as much flavor as New Pots. I would definately recommend New Pot over Mama Thai if your looking for Thai in Oak Park.

I've had two good experiences here, and one okay experience. It's one of those places where I guess you kind of have to know what to order. The two good times were when I was at a friend's house and had it delivered and he knew what to get. The one okay time, i was alone and carried it out.

    (4)
  • Ellen R.

They have the best red curry in town! Seriously people be brave and please try something other than pad thai, you cannot judge a restaurant by the quality of their pad thai! Try something new, they use fresh veggies, and it won't disappoint!

This place has been hit-or-miss with us. I always get the New Pot Noodle (ordered spicy) and I love it. It's one of my favorite noddle dishes around. However, dishes can sometimes be bland.

One of my favorite Thai places in the burbs. Great Basil Chicken. Ground, seasoned, and strong flavored. Excellent Pad Siew. Reasonable prices. Been back again and again.

This asian cuisine resturant is a great place to go and have a quite meal. It's rarely crowded and is in walking distance of the parking garage. The food tastes fresh and has plenty of dishes for vegetarians. My personal favorite is the Pad Thai w/tofu. Their sauce is a little less sweet than I've had at other places but it is some of the best. And I love that they mix in tons of veggies. I also love their potstickers. You can get them fried and steamed. The steamed ones are always perfect.

So, I walked away from New Pot with mixed impressions. Usually this happens when I am not a big fan of the food but I like the decor. Which is undeniably shallow and not really a reason for giving a thumbs up for a restaurant since I go to eat, not ogle. I am not 100 percent willing to write off the Pot just yet, though. I'll need one more taste before I might choose to do that. I had the pad thai and quite honestly, I don't remember eating it. I mean, I remember the action of shoveling it into my thai-hole (get it?), but I can't actually recall the flavor. Because I kind of think there was no flavor. At all. So, I'll have to return to try the curry to see if there is something else on the menu I might enjoy. I was able to steal a piece of food off my dining companion's plate, and I noted that the Sweet and Sour sauce was more tart n'sour, but it was ok. I like an obscenely sweet Sweet and Sour sauce, so others might find the reduced sugaryness to their liking. The plum sauce on the spring rolls was excellent, though - I was tempted to lick the plate. The service was efficient, and I liked that the kitchen was visible. Were I so inclined, or so concerned, I could have easily assessed the cleanliness of the kitchen by peeking over the counter. I'm gonna give this one another go. I'm not so unimpressed that I would stay away.
